Airbus Helicopters to provide long-term support for EC135 rotorcraft operated by German Federal Police
ILA Berlin Air Show 2014
Berlin, 23 May 2014 – Keeping the German Federal Police’s large fleet of EC135 rotorcraft mission-ready will be the responsibility of Airbus Helicopters based on a long-term maintenance, repair, and overhaul contract (MRO) signed with the NATO Support Agency NSPA at the ILA Berlin Air Show. The NATO Support Agency (NSPA) is NATO’s Integrated Logistics and Services Provider Agency, which executed the procurement process for the service contract on behalf of the German Federal Police.
This service contract covers all 41 EC135 T2i rotorcraft in the Bundespolizei Fliegergruppe (German Federal Police Flying Squadron) fleet, with the initial aircraft to arrive at Airbus Helicopters’ Kassel-Calden, Germany maintenance facility later this month. The agreement has an initial three-year timeframe, with an extension option to five years.
“We are uniquely positioned to support the German Federal Police’s helicopter inventory, bringing our full resources as the manufacturer of the EC135 to ensure their readiness,” explained Ulrich Amersdorffer, Airbus Helicopters Vice President – MRO Germany.

Maintenance services covered by the agreement include phase inspections, engine inspections, replacement of operation time limit parts (OTL), component repair and overhaul, the application of service bulletins, the compliance with service letters, the incorporation of engineering orders, as well as helicopter painting.
“Responsiveness is the key to mission success for the German Federal Police. Therefore we are looking forward to benefit from Airbus Helicopters’ MRO competence in keeping the Bundespolizei’s EC135 T2i fleet in the sky” added NSPA’s Senior Contracting Officer.
Airbus Helicopters’ EC135 T2i is a member of the company’s EC135 multi-mission twin-engine rotorcraft family, featuring Arrius 2B2 engines with higher power ratings, an increased maximum take-off weight and other enhancements.
The German Federal Police is Airbus Helicopters’ largest law enforcement customer in Europe, with 85 company-built rotorcraft in its fleet. Their relationship dates back more than 50 years, when the agency’s predecessor – the German Federal Border Guard – began operating its first Alouette II helicopter in 1962.
In addition to the German Federal Police Aviation Service’s current inventory of EC135s, the other Airbus Helicopter-built rotorcraft types it operates are EC155s, AS332 L1s and EC120s, the latter for training purposes only. Duties performed by the law enforcement agency include border patrol and search-and-rescue missions, along with the transportation of personnel and special forces in national and international environments.

Airbus Helicopters takes the spotlight at HeliRussia and displays a Russian-operated AS350 B3 rotorcraft
HeliRussia 2014
Moscow, Russia, 23 May 2014 – As the leading supplier of foreign-made turbine-powered rotorcraft in Russia, Airbus Helicopters’ participation at this week’s HeliRussia industry show focuses on its product range and mission diversity – including the display of a single-engine AS350 B3, a best-seller that has earned its reputation with customers in Russia and abroad.
Airbus Helicopters’ AS350 B3 is the only foreign-made rotorcraft chosen by Russian companies for a full range of missions: pipeline monitoring, the airlift of sling loads weighing up to 1.4 tons, geophysical surveys and passenger transportation, among others. This multi-role helicopter also is actively used in VIP flights with up to five passengers.
Its popularity among Russian customers is confirmed by the numbers: 43 rotorcraft of this type are used in the country, along with 12 EC130s – which also are members of Airbus Helicopters’ popular Ecureuil family.

Airbus Helicopters’ presence at HeliRussia is the seventh time it has joined this annual event, with the 2014 edition marking the first since the company’s rebranding from Eurocopter. Under the new identity, and benefitting from the strength of its Airbus Group parent company, Airbus Helicopters Vostok retains the region’s market leadership by a broad margin, accounting for over 60 percent of the foreign-built rotorcraft delivered in Russia and the CIS – with more than 225 helicopters operating in the region.
“HeliRussia has become the industry gathering of choice to meet customers, discuss support operations, as well as to showcase new rotorcraft and technologies,” explained Laurence Rigolini, the General Manager of Airbus Helicopters Vostok. “This is why we are an active supporter again in 2014, being the general sponsor of the region’s largest helicopter exhibition for the seventh time.”
Also at HeliRussia, Airbus Helicopters will be highlighting the upcoming introduction of its new EC175, which will enter service in 2014 with launch customers that include Russian operator UTair. Deliveries of this seven-ton-class medium rotorcraft will begin before year-end, with UTair introducing the EC175 on missions for the oil and gas industry, as well as deploying it for further market expansion. The major Russian heli-lift service provider has a total of 15 EC175s on order.
Another element of Airbus Helicopters Vostok’s presence at HeliRussia is a scale model display of the twin-engine EC135, which is well-suited to medical evacuation missions in Russia and the CIS – as well as utility duties, business transport and law enforcement missions.
Airbus Helicopters Vostok is at HeliRussia exhibit booth 1F at Moscow’s Crocus Expo IEC exposition center during the May 22-24 event.

Reliable service worldwide for over 40 years: BO105 helicopters clock up a total of 8 million flight hours
ILA Berlin Air Show 2014
Flight-hour milestone captured by Flying Bulls helicopter
BERLIN, May 21, 2014 – BO105 have been a fixture of helicopter fleets around the globe for over 40 years. They reliably carry out their missions and prove their worth day after day under tough conditions. Collectively, they have now completed a total of 8 million flight hours.
“We are proud that the BO105 has reached this unique milestone,” says Dr. Wolfgang Schoder, CEO of Airbus Helicopters in Germany. “It’s always nice to see the spotlight on a helicopter whose versatility, reliability and robustness advertise the quality of German helicopter construction around the world.”
“To this day, I find it fascinating that pilots reach their limits in the BO105 well before the machine itself does. The BO105 remains the only helicopter in the world that can execute the same spectacular aerobatic maneuvers as conventional airplanes,” says Rainer Wilke, BO105 pilot with the Flying Bulls. “I’m already very excited about showing the ILA audience what this helicopter can do.”
With the introduction of its hingeless mai
(© Airbus Helicopters Charles ABARR)
With the introduction of its hingeless main rotor head, the BO105 paved the way for the bearingless rotor systems of today’s helicopters. In total, more than 1,400 BO105 helicopters were delivered to customers between 1970 and 2009. In addition to Germany, the BO105 was also manufactured under license in the Philippines, Indonesia, Spain and Canada. Some 700 BO105 are still in service worldwide today, including as air rescue and police helicopters, as transport helicopters in the oil and gas industry, and also for business travel. They completed some 125,000 flight hours in the last year alone.
The German Armed Forces is the biggest user, having also integrated the BO105 into its fleet as the PAH1 anti-tank helicopter. Meanwhile, the longest-serving BO105 was commissioned back in 1974 and is still carrying out aerial work on the Falkland Islands. It now has some 21,000 flight hours under its belt.
Although production of the BO105 wound down in the late 1990s, Airbus Helicopters provides comprehensive support and spare parts for the helicopter fleet and has undertaken to continue doing so until at least 2025. Plenty of time, then, for the veteran helicopter to reach a few more milestones.

About the Flying Bulls
The Flying Bulls are a subsidiary of the Austrian energy drink maker Red Bull. From their base at Hangar-7 in Salzburg Airport, the Flying Bulls operate a fleet of almost twenty rare aircraft, World War II-era planes, and a classic of passenger aviation, the DC-6B, of which only two airworthy examples survive anywhere in the world. The aircraft museum also has helicopters, which – like their fixed-wing brethren – have to be a bit special to gain admission: The Flying Bulls’ two BO-105 make up half the worldwide population of civil helicopters of this type that are certified for full aerobatic flight. Three Flying Bulls pilots are licensed to fly the helicopters in front of an audience in this elite discipline. All aircraft in the Flying Bulls fleet are maintained, repaired and, if necessary, restored at the company’s own facilities in Hangar-8. The wings of all aircraft –fixed and rotary – bear the slogan “Red Bull gives you wings.”

Airbus Helicopters introduces more personalization to its Hermès designed EC135 aircraft
EBACE 2014
Marignane, France, 20 May 2014 – Airbus Helicopters – the rotorcraft market leader in business and private aviation – is bringing a EC135 T2e l’Hélicoptère par Hermès, in new colors, to Geneva, Switzerland as part of the company’s participation at the 2014 European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE).
At the airshow, Airbus Helicopters is showcasing opportunities for additional personalization to the original Hermès definition that was introduced in 2007, to be applied to the upgraded EC135 T3/P3 variant of the company’s twin-engine EC135. Each customer will be able to define a unique helicopter to which Hermès will bring its particular materials, refinement and exceptional “savoir faire.”
(© Airbus Helicopters)
“This increased customization is Airbus Helicopters’ response to business and private aviation customers’ growing desires for personalization,” said Olivier Lambert, Airbus Helicopters’ Senior Vice President for Sales and Customer Relations. “It enables them to work directly with creative design teams at Hermès for such aspects as color harmonies, upholstery variants and other elements that best suit their tastes and requirements.”
Airbus Helicopters’ EC135 T2 at EBACE 2014 features l’Hélicoptère par Hermès interior and has a specially-designed paint scheme that further refines the rotorcraft’s exterior lines – inspired by the rounded harness designed by Hermès during the company’s origins as a supplier to the equestrian sector.
As part of its EBACE 2014 presence, Airbus Helicopters will underscore its role as the only rotorcraft manufacturer offering products in every category for the business and private aviation markets, from its light single- and twin-engine models (EC120, AS350, EC130, AS355, EC135 and EC145), to the mid-sized AS365, EC155 and EC175, as well as the heavy-lift EC225.
(© Antoine GONIN)
This diversity is combined with Airbus Helicopters’ strategy of partnering with companies to offer high-quality cabin interiors, equipment and outfitting options.
Airbus Helicopters has maintained a one-third market share for business and private aviation during the past several years. From 2009 to 2013, this represented the sales of more than 430 rotorcraft.
For the company’s EBACE 2014 participation, Airbus Helicopters will be present on the exhibit stand of its Airbus Group parent company (Booth 6613), during the May 20-22 event at Geneva’s Palexpo conference center.

Airbus Helicopters’ EC175 makes its North Sea debut and announces extra payload
A week-long demonstration tour brings the rotorcraft to England, Scotland and Norway
Marignane, France, 16 May 2014 – The EC175 is Airbus Helicopters’ newest-certified rotorcraft in the 7-metric-ton class. It will demonstrate its outstanding Category A performance and its mission capabilities for the oil and gas sector during a three-nation demonstration tour starting on May 19.
In conjunction with the new rotorcraft’s tour of the North Sea, Airbus Helicopters will announce an increase to the EC175’s maximum take-off weight, up to 7,800 kg, offering significant additional payload of 300 kg or an additional 40NM radius of action. The extended MTOW provides additional operational flexibility – particularly in highly demanding oil and gas heli-lift operations, and for missions to oil rigs that are located increasingly further off-shore. Certification of the extended maximum take-off weight is planned before the end of 2016, following a flight test campaign next year.
“Seeing is believing, and this latest EC175 demonstration tour will enable North Sea oil and gas operators, oil companies and industry workers’ unions to experience and appreciate the performance, range and comfort of this new-generation helicopter,” said Dominique Maudet, Airbus Helicopters’ Executive Vice President - Global Business and Service.
The EC175’s demonstration tour brings it to Norwich, England on May 19th; Aberdeen, Scotland during May 20th – 22nd, and Stavanger, Norway, on May 23rd.
Certified in January by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), Airbus Helicopters’ EC175 meets the latest airworthiness standards, covering both the rotorcraft and its new Helionix® avionics suite – which provides increased safety through reduced pilot workload, enhanced situational awareness, improved flight envelope protection and system redundancy.
The helicopter was developed to meet evolving oil and gas industry mission needs, offering outstanding performance and unmatched cost efficiency – enabling a full payload to be carried to 90 percent of the North Sea’s offshore installations. The Rig ’N Fly GPS-navigation-assisted software, after certification on EC225e, will be incorporated in the EC175’s avionics suite to make approaches to, and takeoffs from, platform-based helipads safer and simpler.
As a high-capacity medium-sized rotorcraft, the EC175 accommodates 16 passengers in comfort, offering the most cabin volume per person. The in-flight environment is enhanced by very low vibration levels and a smooth ride – even at high speed. Powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada’s latest PT6 engine – the PT6C67E version developed specifically for this helicopter – the EC175 retains a competitive edge with its recommended cruise speed of 150 kts., while the maximum cruise speed exceeds 165 kts.*
Airbus Helicopters will begin EC175 deliveries later this year to the first customers, backed by the company’s commitment to provide a mature helicopter with a dedicated task force and tools that include validated support and services deliverables, as well as established training capabilities.
As part of its investment in support and services resources, Airbus Helicopters has installed an EC175 Level D full flight simulator at its Marignane, France headquarters for operation beginning this summer, allowing pilot training to begin prior to the start-up of EC175 deliveries.
Airbus Helicopters operates a facility in Aberdeen, Scotland offering 930 square meters of storage volume for spares, along with local maintenance, repair and overhaul capability. This support capacity reduces turnaround times and increases operational productivity for customers in the North Sea.
